Suffolk Freight Forwarder | The benefits of using an FTA member

When choosing a freight forwarder to work with your company, it is always wise to check whether a prospective partner is a member of the Freight Transport Association (FTA). As one of the largest trade associations in the UK, the FTA represents the transport interests of 14,000 members and works to ensure the safest, most efficient and sustainable logistics operations throughout the supply chain.

The FTA regularly communicates current and future changes in logistics legislation to their members. This is not just in relation to UK law, but across Europe and beyond. Clearly, non-FTA members are in danger of being non-compliant and that risk is often passed on to their customers and their freight.
FTA members are committing to ‘best practice’ standards. The “well driven” scheme has been highly successful in showing that participants take their driving standards seriously. More importantly, the scheme has helped reduce accidents and lower insurance costs, to the benefit of all road users.

Furthermore in order to reduce operational and legal risk, FTA members are able to access the FTA’s Driver Licence Checking Service. If applicable this empowers FTA members to quickly perform licence checks for all their drivers against current records, which are continually and automatically re-checked.
Morrison Freight is proud to be a member of the FTA. We use their specialist professional knowledge and advice to ensure our customers receive the best possible service.

Suffolk Freight Forwarder | Bigger isn't always better

As a small freight forwarder, Morrison Freight offers excellent customer service which is why our clients come back to us time and time again. Unlike many larger logistics companies, we are able to offer a personal, bespoke service which is tailor-made to suit your requirements.

At Morrison Freight decisions can be made quickly. We are able to respond to your needs without the procedural red tape often found within larger organisations. When using big logistics companies, internal processes coupled with multiple levels of management and complicated sign-off procedures can result in slow responses. Bureaucracy inside larger transport businesses often means suppliers become detached from their customers and relationships are impersonal. With a smaller company like Morrison Freight, our focus remains on you, the customer, because you are important to our business.

We like to work closely with our clients and build strong, lasting relationships. Our hands-on management approach means you can speak directly with our Senior Management team at any time. This level of access and customer care is almost impossible for larger organisations. Nobody wants to be a small fish in a big pond where you are fighting for attention.

Suffolk Freight Forwarder | Agricultural Equipment Division Launched

Suffolk-based Morrison Freight has today announced the launch of a new agricultural machinery transport division to be operational from February 1st 2013. The division will offer a complete transportation solution for any business or individual looking to move agricultural machinery between the UK and mainland Europe.

Morrison Freight is already recognised as an award-winning European road haulage expert. With the launch of the Agricultural Machinery division, the focus is to establish the company as a dedicated, one-stop supplier of agricultural machinery transportation services.

The new division will offer daily direct services to and from mainland Europe, using an extensive range of driver accompanied trailers. Benefits to the customer include multi-lingual staff to ensure clear communication at all times, including UK office-based employees. Services will operate 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Detlef Liebscher, Managing Director of Morrison Freight commented; “We are committed to providing our customers with the specialist services they require. This means developing our business in line with customer need. Our expertise in agricultural machinery movement has now reached a level that justifies the creation of an entirely new and dedicated department. Obviously, we would also hope that by introducing a comprehensive machinery transport service, we will open doors to new clients.”

The launch is a direct response to the growing demand from businesses to move agricultural machinery between the UK and continental Europe. Morrison Freight has seen a considerable increase in the number of enquiries for heavy machinery movement over the last two years which has resulted in the formation of the new division.

Suffolk Freight Forwarder | Rises to Azerbaijani challenge

Suffolk-based freight forwarder Morrison Freight has completed the delivery of four pieces of large, heavy plant machinery to Baku in Azerbaijan. The specialist consignment consisted of digging equipment to be used as part of a construction project in the oil and petroleum industry.

As a European road haulage specialist, Morrison Freight had not previously delivered to this destination. The new route saw vehicles transit through Belgium, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Armenia before finally arriving in Azerbaijan. Despite the 13 day transit time and a 36 hour stop to complete customs formalities at the Azerbaijan border, Morrison Freight delivered the machinery 48 hours before the scheduled arrival time.

Recent figures released by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs show an 18% growth in East Anglian companies exporting to non-EU destinations. This compares with only a 1.6% growth rate in exports to countries within the Eurozone. With continued financial instability in many European countries, developing oil rich nations have become an attractive market for East Anglian companies looking for business growth but transportation has often been an issue.

Detlef Liebscher, Managing Director of Morrison Freight commented; “We want to make exporting goods easier for local companies. We know we’re experienced in European road haulage but this project took us into new areas geographically and operationally. With over 100 years combined experience in European road freight services we knew we could offer a solution for any logistics challenge.”

“For this project, we had to source specialist vehicles to accommodate the height of the equipment and we organised a change of driver in Turkey. This was to make certain we had the relevant cultural knowledge and language skills required to ensure our customer’s load arrived at its final destination safely and on time. We also managed the customs documentation to offer our clients complete peace of mind.”

Morrison Freight, headquartered in Great Blakenham, near Ipswich, Suffolk, is primarily involved with the movement of agricultural machinery, heavy goods, construction and plant equipment to and from mainland Europe.

Suffolk Freight Forwarder | Delivers Love in a Box

Morrison Freight, the Suffolk-based freight forwarding company, is making this a memorable Christmas for orphaned children in Ukraine and Moldova, by delivering shoe boxes filled with presents.

For the past 10 years Morrison Freight has worked with the Christian charity, Mustard Seed Relief Mission, as part of the ‘Love in a Box’ campaign. The project sees more than 50,000 gift-wrapped shoeboxes, filled with presents travel either 1500 miles from the UK to Lebedin in Ukraine or 1700 miles to Cahul in Moldova.

Morrison Freight moves a variety of different goods for various industries including agricultural machinery and construction & plant equipment to and from mainland Europe. The company moves approximately 250 trailers throughout Europe a week, however during November the freight forwarder swaps some of its usual loads for shoeboxes. Each box is packed with age and gender in mind and individually received by an under privileged child.

Lee Steward, Operations Director of Morrison Freight commented; “We really enjoy helping Mustard Seed each year and are proud to be a part of the ‘Love in a Box’ campaign. It’s good to know we are making Christmas better for so many children by delivering these gifts. It’s over-whelming to still see so many donations even though people are experiencing their own financial issues here in the UK”.

Mustard Seed begins collecting boxes at the end of October which are donated by schools, businesses, churches and individuals. By November, Morrison Freight transports pallets of presents to ensure the boxes arrive in time for Christmas.

For Moldova, customs formalities are completed at Dover which allow the trucks to travel for 6 days through 7 European countries before arriving at a nominated Romanian/Moldavian border point. It is here the trucks are met by British charity workers where additional customs formalities have to be completed before arriving at the final destination and offloading point. The boxes bound for Ukraine transit through Belgium, Germany and Poland where they enter Ukraine at Lvov. Again, the English distribution team meets the trucks and travels with the shoeboxes a further 690 miles to the final destination in Lebedin.

Suffolk Freight Forwarder | Level Playing Field or Uk Hauliers

The Government has recently announced that it intends to press on with implementing charges for heavy goods vehicles, which will have the effect of charging foreign vehicles for using UK roads.
The Department for Transport says that this will help ensure a fairer arrangement for UK hauliers. DfT consulted on proposals earlier in the year with charges of up to £1,000 a year for foreign hauliers.

Whilst UK hauliers would also pay, a corresponding cut to VED on UK registered vehicles will compensate UK hauliers. The Government expects the charge to be in place as soon as possible but no later than the end of the current Parliament.

If you would like to discuss how these changes could effect you, please email or phone Lee Steward on 01473 836557.
