Suffolk Freight Forwarder | Rises to Azerbaijani challenge

Suffolk-based freight forwarder Morrison Freight has completed the delivery of four pieces of large, heavy plant machinery to Baku in Azerbaijan. The specialist consignment consisted of digging equipment to be used as part of a construction project in the oil and petroleum industry.

As a European road haulage specialist, Morrison Freight had not previously delivered to this destination. The new route saw vehicles transit through Belgium, Germany, Austria, Hungary, Romania, Bulgaria, Turkey, and Armenia before finally arriving in Azerbaijan. Despite the 13 day transit time and a 36 hour stop to complete customs formalities at the Azerbaijan border, Morrison Freight delivered the machinery 48 hours before the scheduled arrival time.

Recent figures released by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs show an 18% growth in East Anglian companies exporting to non-EU destinations. This compares with only a 1.6% growth rate in exports to countries within the Eurozone. With continued financial instability in many European countries, developing oil rich nations have become an attractive market for East Anglian companies looking for business growth but transportation has often been an issue.

Detlef Liebscher, Managing Director of Morrison Freight commented; “We want to make exporting goods easier for local companies. We know we’re experienced in European road haulage but this project took us into new areas geographically and operationally. With over 100 years combined experience in European road freight services we knew we could offer a solution for any logistics challenge.”

“For this project, we had to source specialist vehicles to accommodate the height of the equipment and we organised a change of driver in Turkey. This was to make certain we had the relevant cultural knowledge and language skills required to ensure our customer’s load arrived at its final destination safely and on time. We also managed the customs documentation to offer our clients complete peace of mind.”

Morrison Freight, headquartered in Great Blakenham, near Ipswich, Suffolk, is primarily involved with the movement of agricultural machinery, heavy goods, construction and plant equipment to and from mainland Europe.

Suffolk Freight Forwarder | Delivers Love in a Box

Morrison Freight, the Suffolk-based freight forwarding company, is making this a memorable Christmas for orphaned children in Ukraine and Moldova, by delivering shoe boxes filled with presents.

For the past 10 years Morrison Freight has worked with the Christian charity, Mustard Seed Relief Mission, as part of the ‘Love in a Box’ campaign. The project sees more than 50,000 gift-wrapped shoeboxes, filled with presents travel either 1500 miles from the UK to Lebedin in Ukraine or 1700 miles to Cahul in Moldova.

Morrison Freight moves a variety of different goods for various industries including agricultural machinery and construction & plant equipment to and from mainland Europe. The company moves approximately 250 trailers throughout Europe a week, however during November the freight forwarder swaps some of its usual loads for shoeboxes. Each box is packed with age and gender in mind and individually received by an under privileged child.

Lee Steward, Operations Director of Morrison Freight commented; “We really enjoy helping Mustard Seed each year and are proud to be a part of the ‘Love in a Box’ campaign. It’s good to know we are making Christmas better for so many children by delivering these gifts. It’s over-whelming to still see so many donations even though people are experiencing their own financial issues here in the UK”.

Mustard Seed begins collecting boxes at the end of October which are donated by schools, businesses, churches and individuals. By November, Morrison Freight transports pallets of presents to ensure the boxes arrive in time for Christmas.

For Moldova, customs formalities are completed at Dover which allow the trucks to travel for 6 days through 7 European countries before arriving at a nominated Romanian/Moldavian border point. It is here the trucks are met by British charity workers where additional customs formalities have to be completed before arriving at the final destination and offloading point. The boxes bound for Ukraine transit through Belgium, Germany and Poland where they enter Ukraine at Lvov. Again, the English distribution team meets the trucks and travels with the shoeboxes a further 690 miles to the final destination in Lebedin.
